Al Simmons was born in Chicago in 1948. In 1971 he began the first regular poetry reading series in Chicago since Sherwood Anderson. See how it has grown. He was Poet-In-Residence, City of Chicago Council On Fine Arts, 1979-80, and founder/promoter of The World Heavyweight Championship Poetry Fights, Chicago/Taos, New Mexico 1979-2001. He lives in Alameda, California.
