Jungle Fever
by Jessie Sandlin
(11/12/03)
You brought the overheated coffee
wrapped only in that damn red dragon kimono
and a pearl necklace.
Me, fresh from Viet Nam, your breasts, peeking at me
screamed, "WELCOME HOME."
10,000 miles away in a war I had only nightmared through
I dreamed constantly of that kimono and your hair.
Your hair. That damn red kimono and your hair.
I dreamed of wind in your hair, my hands pulling you to me
by the roots of that hair.
Your hair and that damned red kimono formed my need.
Rose hip/lips swollen with desire, dripping
floating to me across the jungle, I ached for rose flesh
beneath that dragon, red fire-breathing liberation.
