Labeled a Woman
by Diana May
(09/01/04)
I try to avoid fairy-tale
fantasies, make believe
living in the now.
I fail to ascertain
an objective difference.
I am incorrigible,
feeling alone
and superior
without a man.
Fuck Cinderella
and her dainty
foot.
Fuck Sleeping Beauty
and the magic kiss.
I have other problems
a blown head gasket,
empty cereal boxes
and a run in my stockings
You see me here
in my pin stripe suit
holding a tape recorder
writing your news.
my appearance
does not proclaim
my respectability,
distinction by dress
Measuring it all
by the size of
a woman's breasts
the shape of her legs
categories
of worthy
and unworthy
anatomy is destiny
and no I won't be
your mistress
but I might
fuck you
for an oil change.
