What is Required in the Forever
by Clare L. Martin
(04/29/09)
I am full of love this night. Listening
to Hejira Joni Mitchell
and sipping whiskey: thank you.
I just had a taste
tonight for whiskey
and vinyl and love.
We have been keeping
odd hours and making love
in the wee hours -- like three AM sex,
hard love, a litany of dirty,
dirty -- as dirty as you can get
with a partner that knows
your curves and exits.
20+ years and we still excite each other.
The miracle is in the imagination.
The heart of the other is a wide,
expansive and fertile ground.
I give myself over.
I fight to connect, to reside in the real
throbbing-beat of his love.
I will be in the moment
of his movements.
I will be in the movement
of his lips, hips, tongue, and fingers.
With each love-experience
we are connected tighter.
Bless this union.
Bless the raw love;
the ebullient flame
that ignites this,
our passion.
