The Care And Keeping Of Angels & Severence
by Rebecca Lu Kiernan

The Care And Keeping Of Angels
Finally you come
After otherworld versions of you
Through the halos and midnight invocations,
In panting rhythm and heartfelt obscenities
And now the pecan of your calm, unblinking eyes.
You close the lancet stained glass door
Peeling off your silhouette,
Shaking your head like the RCA dog.
Bronze fingers raking through
Your neon blonde hair.
You ask,
"What's with the black fishnet stockings?"
Laughter to wash down
A long-stuck placebo.
Your wings beating so fast
I can barely hear my heart
Singing, "Burn them off!"
Severence
Someone forgets to close the window.
It rains on the garden gargoyles
As it rains in my dreams.
Violet sheet lightening
Lights up your dimpling cheeks.
Sea gulls panicked in prehurricane air
Leave claw marks
On the eggshell lace curtains.
Sweat drips down my chin
To your belly.
You gasp behind me, beneath.
Wind jangles the chandelier.
I arch against your tremulous mouth.
My throat opens for you.
I swallow every ounce of you.
The thing you never said,
You stopped by to give me
One pearl earring, my slippers,
News of your upcoming address.
