Night Stanzas

Gnostic Gato

by Phedra Johnson
(02/07/07 )

All your little girlfriends dance in clusters.
Cause the boys like it.
And you join in
because
secretly
you like it.
And you sorta hide it...
but I can see.

I know you better.

Like how you've been sneaking peeks your whole life.
In locker rooms.
At slumber parties.
Wanting more than dry experimental kisses.
Now you've started to believe
nobody
in this small town
can comprehend your confessional.

Wait!

Don't pray to Jesus.
He can't heal your heart like I can.
I lay on the hands.
Close your eyes and feel that burden melt away.
I know incantations.
Secret spells.
The art of lunar moths.

Now my wings are all over you.
My gospel turns your water into wine.
Soon I'm drunk from little sips.
My praises radiate from your hips
and burst from your lips.

I'm no wax and plaster saint.
These miracles are real.
So don't hold back!
Speak in tongues.
Jump and shout and sing.

Just remember...
loving God can get you to Heaven.
Loving me gets you wings...

Phedra Johnson was raised at the T-intersection of two red mud roads. All her childhood memories are of clean air, towering pine trees, and church services. Phedra's parents were hysterically over-protective (in a loving way). She was a chronic bookworm. She marched in the band. She won University Interscholastic League honors as the state champion in Poetry Interpretation and Impromptu Speaking. Needless to say, nobody wanted to date her in high school. Then she went to college. Now she writes very explicit sex articles for Pulp Magazine. Parents, this is what happens when you shelter your children.
