About Clean Sheets
Clean Sheets was founded in October 1998 by a small group of writers who dreamed of
an online erotic magazine that didn't take itself too seriously, but still did its best to
be fresh, clear and exciting -- a vision of "Good Vibrations meets Salon.com."
Clean Sheets has
published new articles, fiction, poetry and reviews every Wednesday since that time, along with a monthly art gallery and editorial. All of our writing is showcased on the front page for four weeks, and then moved to our free archive of great erotic writing. Our popular bookstore is also updated monthly for our readers.
Clean Sheets is honored to have had many stories selected for anthologies such as Susie Bright's Best American Erotica, Marcy Sheiner’s Best Women’s Erotica, and Maxim Jakubowski’s Mammoth Book of Best New Erotica. We are proud to promote both established and new writers on an equal basis.
Clean Sheets has three special-issue months -- February is devoted to the eroticism of travel, July is our Erotic Feast, and October is "Kinky Ink" month, when we devote articles and fiction to interesting and well-known erotic writers and editors. Clean Sheets' staff members are all volunteers, and are located around the world, from Switzerland to Australia to the heartland of Iowa.
Our mission statement: Clean Sheets is a weekly magazine devoted to encouraging and publishing quality erotic fiction, poetry, and art, providing honest information and thoughtful commentary on sexuality to the public, and fostering an ongoing discussion of sexuality in the lives of individuals and in a global society.
About Our Readers
Clean Sheets averages more than
two thousand unique visitors each day, and serves almost half a million
page views per month.
A survey was completed by over a thousand of our readers in
June 2000, providing some interesting statistics about them.
Our readers are almost equally divided between men and women. Their age groups divide fairly evenly between twenties, thirties, and forties, though the full range
is from late teens to the seventies. Our
readers are primarily heterosexual, with a strong bisexual
contingent, and most describe themselves as mildly kinky
(though we don't presume to define what that means). The vast majority
of our readers visit every single week, and we're pleased that they
keep coming back for more.
