Writing/Zines
Bethany's
Woodshed -- The "premiere spanking
site on the Web", featuring
stories by Bethany and other writers (including Clean Sheets
fiction editor, Jaie Helier) as well as photos, illustrations,
chat and lots more.
Dare -- "A magazine for the 21st century woman -- a little edgier,
a little more raw, a little more erotic than your typical women's
magazine." Publishes quarterly, with a good mix of articles, art
photography, and fiction.
Erotica Reader's Association: Calls for Submission -- No, not that kind of submission, the writing kind!
Our favorite site on the web to find out where and how to submit your erotic
writing for publication.
gettingit -- described as a "daily humor/culture webzine"
that reports on the strange, the sexy, the popular, and the pathetic.
Libido Magazine -- Libido is "a literary answer to a horizontal
urge" -- a journal of the erotic arts that publishes fiction,
photography, poetry, fine arts, essays, interviews and reviews dealing in
sex and sensibility. Yes, this is the same lovely Libido that we have enjoyed for
years in print, now on the Web!
Mind Caviar --"Dedicated to
Sensual Pleasures of All Types for Discriminating and Intelligent
Readers." Jamie Joy Gatto's "bi-friendly place" is a visual delight
full of poetry, fiction, features, recipes and art. An impressive debut
(Spring 2000).
mouthorgan -- sex,
gender, and culture commentary. Updated every Thursday, with
fresh, provocative articles by Todd and Debby; mouthorgan also
provides a reader forum for discussion.
The Mysterious Mr. Lee Organization -- "An Erotica Site for the Discriminating Anonymous
Reader." This is an erotic story site, and a very good one.. Clean navigation, beautiful design, and funny, mysterious explanatory text with an attitude. It's
a free site, and there was almost no advertising when we visited.
nerve° -- literate
smut aims very high indeed, and certainly is among the best
in the business. Very New York, but very well written,
beautifully designed, and easy to navigate.
Nightcharm -- reminds
us of a hard-hitting gay male version of our own site; while
we're certainly not identical, there's a similar attempt
at honesty, exuberant sexuality, and intelligence. They're probably
a little raunchier. We think you'll like them.
The Position
-- The new zine (6/00) for New York City's upcoming
Museum of Sex bills itself as "the first mainstream sex magazine
ever." Some might argue that point, but so far it's certainly full of
interesting news, essays, erotic stories, and has probably the only retired Bishop
that we know of who writes a sex column.
Savage Love, In the Onion
-- Dan Savage's outstanding, funny
column of sex and weirdness, found here online in "The Onion," the
home of weird & wonderful writing.
Scarlet Letters
-- a quarterly journal of femmerotica, this
magazine is packed full of enthusiasm and excitement. Stories,
poetry, art, articles and more, all delivered to you with healthy
doses of honesty and humor.
Strange Horizons
-- Mary Anne Mohanraj's new venture in speculative fiction, includes science fiction & fantasy articles, poetry, galleries, reviews, and editorials.
Suspect Thoughts: a journal of subversive writing
-- A new quarterly zine (7/00), devoted to
fiction and creative nonfiction writing about "sex, violence, pleasure, pain, murder, necrophilia, rock and roll, shift changers, alternate realities, ghosts, beauty, desire, longing, and yes, love." An impressive debut, with interesting writing and lovely art work.
Zaftig! -- edited by
Hanne Blank, Zaftig! Sex for the Well Rounded is a quarterly
print and e-zine devoted to real bodies, real minds, and hot,
interesting writing about sex that is truly one size
fits all. No people should be without their own image: Zaftig!
is devoted to celebrating the sexiness of people of all genders
and orientations who don't fit the mass-media body ideal. Smart
smut. Real bodies. Dig in.

Alternative, Porn
& Other Good Things
Asia Carrera -- award
winning, well-designed, funny, very personal, sometimes touching
site. It's very much adult film star Asia's world on the web.
Kudos for (among other things) two wonderful phrases --
a subscription portion called "Asia Carrera's Really Boring
Pay Section," and a reference to the lower eschelon of the
adult web sites as "banner filled
circle jerks."
B & belle's BDSM Cafe -- free
stories and pictures of the real kinky stuff, nicely categorized,
from fetish to bondage to submissives to classics.
Betty Dodson Online
-- personal website for Betty Dodson, PhD., author of Sex for One: The Joy of Selfloving.
Everything we could ask for on a sexual professional's site.
A lot of good material on sex generally, and
masturbation in particular, three wonderful videos teaching female
masturbation, and several forums; all presented with style, honesty,
and a sense of humor.
The Church of Tantra -- Everything
you ever wanted to know about the world of tantra and forgot to
even ask, including just how to obtain a 'sacred orgasm.'
The Deviant's Dictionary --
an 'encyclopervia of the Net.' Every sexual term you might have wondered about
is here, in a dictionary intended to be fun as well as informative and
responsible. Sponsored by queernet.org, a community for the gay/lesbian/ bisexual/transgendered and leather/S&M communities.
Hoot Island -- sexy,
funny, interviews, parody, erotic stories, pictures, one of the
best link sections anywhere, and "outbursts" by island
czar Wyyrd. As far as we're concerned, nobody does funny and
sexy better.
Iron Rose -- "BDSM
Education & Information is our passion" --if you
are into BDSM as a consensual art, or wish to be, this is a great
site to visit; you'll also be welcome if you've come to learn
and not to sneer, regardless of your commitment. A substantial
library, forums, interaction, and a store, all carefully monitored
to stay friendly and safe.
JEN n DAVE's Home Page!
-- a refreshing view of sex; the real, here-to-have-fun,
not-a-glossy-package, smile-on-your-face kind. Lots of free pictures,
a web cam, some commentary, and a lot of personality. You have
to work hard not to love it.
Patches'
Place -- a site devoted to "watersports"
(urination as an erotic activity). Easy to navigate, intelligently
written, often funny, lots of solid information, and a breezy,
not-a-fetish feel about the whole site. A fine place to visit
if you're into "watersports," but maybe even more interesting
if you're curious, but turned off by the usual treatment of these
activities as a dark fetish.
Persian Kitty -- over
130,000 free pics of, well, you know.
Section 12 -- a BDSM
community, bringing a distinctive voice to the Web and the world
of kinky sex. Provides extensive resources
for the casual visitor, as well as an open-yet-demanding environment
of rich discussion and interaction for their members.
Society
for Human Sexuality, Seattle --
Devoted to acceptance and
understanding of all sexual orientations and all consensual and
safe sexual
practices.
Taylor Marsh --
Site for column archives from Taylor Marsh, sex and relationship
columnist for the LA Weekly. Lots of content, an attractive,
well-designed site, and almost no advertising when we visited.
The Uncommon Webpage of Michael P. -- a personal exploration by a Dominant. Essays,
fiction, articles and discussion, with a lot of content for a
free personal site. The fiction
may be the best thing there, but one or two of the stories could
leave you sleeping with the lights on.

videos, and even a clearance section. Well arranged, easy to
navigate, helpful, and good friends of ours. We can't imagine
how you couldn't love it!
Blue Door Videos -- now you have a chance to sample adult movies before you buy them, without
going to your local adult movie theater. Blue Door not only sells videos but they rent them as well!

You won't be disappointed with Erotic Shopping!
Good Vibrations -- toys, books, audio, and an antique vibrator museum!
A San Francisco co-op with two retail stores, several catalogs,
and a great web site. Friends of ours, and a delightful, down
home, sexy place.

they have a very generous return policy. Check out their attractive

MWI Productions
-- web site for a company producing
what they describe as "hard core videos for audiences other
than single, straight men." Features the "Real Couples
Series." MWI also advertises
a willingness to do production work for custom videos. Good,
clean site navigation, interesting bios for the company employees,
and no advertising, pop-ups, or capture tricks.
The Playboy Store -- Playboy is more than just a magazine these days.
Check out the Playboy Store where you can buy lingerie, jewelry, collectibles and much more.

item is a box of twelve assorted, but they also sell the Reality
brand, lubricants, accessories, and an enticing sounding (but
unpictured) item called a "pleasure mitt".

Sexual Health &
Education
Coalition for Positive Sexuality
-- The CPS was developed by a group of high school students who felt
a need for more positive sex education. Tired of educational policies
that restricted teachers from discussing issues such as safer sex and
homosexuality, these teens took matters into their own hands and created
"Just Say Yes," a booklet explaining everything the Chicago
school system was not allowed to discuss. This site is a continuation
of the work that began in 1992 with that booklet.
Electronic Frontier Foundation --
EFF is one of the leading organizations in the fight to protect the
civil rights of Netizens worldwide.
Feminists Against Censorship --Not
all feminists are anti-sex! This site will tell you more about FAC and
other groups that are fighting for free expression, both on the net
and off it, from bookstores to libraries, in Britain and America. Join
with other feminists in defending the right to speak freely!
Go Ask Alice --Go Ask Alice is a
wonderful interactive sex-advice site. Visitors can submit questions
to Alice and then check back to see the answers (updated every Friday).
Ask Alice began in 1993 as an internal service for Columbia University
Students and was opened to the public when it proved to be so popular.
Be sure to check out the extensive archives -- your question may already
be answered!
National Coalition Against Censorship
-- Be sure to check out the "special projects" section of
NCAC's website where you'll find the Committee on Sex & Censorship.
The committee, which includes such noted writers as Judy Blume, Susie
Bright and Erica Jong, brings a feminist perspective to censorship debates
on issues relating to sexuality, sexual orientation, and gender roles.
Planned Parenthood Federation of America
-- Planned Parenthood is the world's largest and oldest voluntary family
planning organization. This site provides everything from history (the
books of Margaret Sanger, the founder of Planned Parenthood, were among
the first to be burned by the Nazis) to up-to-date sexual health information
to a directory that will help you find the Planned Parenthood nearest
you.
Scarleteen
-- Straight answers to sex questions for
teens (and their parents) -- an excellent resource for accurate, interesting
explanations and discussions of all things sexual.
Sexual Health Network -- The Sexual
Health Network is a clearing house for information, advice and discussion
of sex and disabilities. The site covers both non-sexual disabilities
such as paralysis and sex-specific disabilities such as impotence, both
physical and psychological disabilities. It appears that inclusiveness
is primary, the prime function of the Network being to assist anyone
who is having difficulty with their sex life for any reason.

Guides & Link Sites
badboynews.com -- Heavily
updated site linking to sex news, articles, pictures, and humor.
Easy to navigate, very current, and often points you to things
you'd have no other way to find.
DungeonNet.com -- "The most comprehensive
directory of BDSM websites in the world." Strictly a links
site, but a very well designed one. Loads quickly, very neatly
categorized, navigation is excellent, the index is well laid
out, it has what appears to be a good search engine, and the
advertising was minimal and tasteful when we visited. Definitely
in the category of "do one thing and do it well" sites.
Erotica Index -- a
Yahoo style index for erotica. It has both links by categories
and a good search engine, and the webmaster appears to have worked
hard to screen deceptive sites out of the listings. The layout
is good, and the advertising was non-deceptive and appropriately
placed when we visited.
Free
Pics Of Sex -- "Hardcore
smut you have to see to believe," it is primarily a pictures
link site, although there is an "erotic stories" section,
and a few pictures on the site. Navigation could be slightly
better in places, but it's largely free of deceptive advertising
and well categorized.
Green Guy's Link-o-Rama
-- a regularly-checked and updated listing, billing itself
as "The Official Adult Links Site of the New Millenium."
JanesGuide
-- our favorite of the on-line guides, Jane's Guide provides
detailed reviews of sex websites, evaluating design, honesty,
and quality (and, of course, sexiness). Truly a thinking person's
guide to sex on the net.
Lady Lynx -- "Links
to Adult Sites designed for women," specializes in links
to sites of interest to heterosexual women. Console free, no
deceptive advertising when we visited, and the navigation is
very clean. Good source for beefcake photo sites.
Lickerish Links --
an invitation only and well categorized links page, primarily
specializing in picture and video links. All links to free sites,
and a conscientious effort by the webmaster to assure that the
sites are not links to links or console clogged.
Naughty Lynx -- a Yahoo-style
listing for adult sites
Richard's Realm --
Easy links to more than 1500 quality sites with free pictures.
Sinfoseek -- Links
separated by category, very compartmentalized, with an adult search
engine
2Wet Adult
Links -- "The Easy Way To Sex On
The Web." Designed for two-clicks-to-a-destination use. Good concept,
and the advertising doesn't interfere with the working parts of the
site. Lacks descriptions in some spots (which the webmaster says he's
working on), and does pop up a half screen ad as you leave, but it's
a particularly well planned and very functional links site.
