Clean Sheets Reader Comments
Erotica on the Rocks By Debra Hyde was quite excellent and for me, heartfelt. It is sad when the companies that got us n the shelves go under. But fortunately for me, I have found new publishing venues, and have forged a new partnership with Mystic Rose Books, the publisher of Screw the Roses, Send Me the Thorns, so not only is my 4th Marketplace book shipping right now, but the first three and next two (at least) all have a new home. And, I'm investigating other ways to bring back titles that have been lost in the Masquerade bug out. Just FYI, my own website is www.iron-rose.com/marketplace. Hadn't logged onto CS in a while. Wasn't sure what I would find. After reading "The Symbol for Intensity" and "Learning To Play Chess" I see that the impeccable standards that brought me here in the first place have not lapsed in the slightest. Very well done. My first visit back to CS in a few weeks and what a delicious read it has been. Thoroughly satisfying story by Isabelle Carruthers! Unique in that it was rather mainstream for CS... one that I can share with a wider audience of friends and lovers. I'll be waiting to see the future info on assm, so keep him! Thanks. Clean Sheets is a very enjoyable site. Any chance of you folks starting a Personal Ad section. I'll be watching.
RE: The Symbol for Intensity. This was one of the best eroto stories I've had the pleasure of reading in a long time. Most erotic fiction I pass over these days, comes from reading too much of it when young and not being surprised or even remotely titillated anymore. But 'intense' is a good description of this bit of prose. Makes me want to attempt being fisted again. I was left with good imagery. Well done.
Re: The Symbol for Intensity ~ I have read allot of erotic fiction and written some to and I have to say this story is without a doubt the most erotic story I have ever read. It captures perfectly so many of my own emotions that I couldn't even begin to enumerate them. And reading it was an experience beyond "intense" ~ I feel like I lived it. Thank you Allison and thank you CleanSheets for your wonderful site. I hope to read more of her work in the future.
Re: gutter vocabulary... I like the word "fuck." Erotic vocabulary is always tricky. The wrong word in bed can set me giggling or turn me off. "Cunt" is hot to me, "pussy" is childish. It's pretty impossible to please everyone and I think it's mostly a matter of what fits a character's personality and motives (and, of course, what does it for you in real life.) Still, you're right that we could all stand to widen our vocabulary rather than stick to the traditional euphemisms and four-letter words.
Elizabeth: I quite see your point -- a narrow vocabulary can weaken a story, whatever the genre. My intention here was to use those words as part of the woman's rejection of strictly "good" behavior. Such language isn't the only way to rebel, nor it is necessarily the best way. It was simply the first way Theresa chose. Zoe Constantin 3/26/00 11:38 AM
The experience is delightful...a woman playing parts, and a man then taking control and using a train and its own sensual beat to enhance the sexual experience. However there is as problem that exists in much erotic writing today. "Her sex"..."fuck" used so often..and "fuck" is really a gutter term in English that does not convey exactly what the author needs. We need more vocabulary....
I just finished reading Intensity. I think that is about the best erotic-fiction I have ever read. The writer is clearly gifted! The details and thought process of the character just take me 'there'. Please continue with wonderfull pieces such as this one. KT 3/24/00 11:36 AM
I enjoyed the story about the train. I forgot the title, but it got me excited. That's how I judge it. If my dick gets hard, I liked it. Cortlandt cortlandt.drake@atomicliving.com 3/22/00 2:07 PM
Katie McN -- Thanks! And I'm not averse to looking at some more recent stories too, although I suppose that'll wait until I write about the authors I've been planning on writing about, which should last me a few columns. At any rate, I've only had a chance to glance at your section on ASSTR, but I'll get back to it when I have more time. Raymond Sullivan raymond@saintly.com 3/20/00 12:53 AM
I want to thank Bill Noble for doing such a wonderful interview (we talked for four hours--believe me, I did not envy his job of condensing our conversation), and Chris Bridges & Brian Peters for their technical creativity and know-how. I am truly honored to be featured at CleanSheets! Also, I want to thank Hanne Blank, for her very informative article, "I've Got to Hand it To Ya: The Fat Broad Dishes Vaginal Fisting." Allison Lonsdale, I have only one thing to say to you--what an INCREDIBLE, INCREDIBLE story "The Symbol for Intensity" is! I have never felt so strongly about a short piece of erotica--except perhaps for Bill Noble's "The Beautiful Pizzle," both for different reasons, but you both captured a moment on paper that will stay with me forever. Thank you.
Thanks to BG for his/her kind comments. I confess I was a little surprised that 'CS' picked up "Learning to Play Chess" because, admittedly, it is rather tame erotica. I tend to write mainstream fiction but most of my work is too adult for literary mags and yet not heavy enough for erotica mags, so I lurk somewhere in the middle. Nevertheless, I'm thrilled to be among the great talents featured at CS :) Thanks for reading! Isabelle Carruthers
I liked the article about alt.sex.stories. I sure hope that you don't limit yourself to what happened 3 years ago, though. Lot's of good stuff has happened since they. For example - ME! Yep, Katie McN has a bunch of stories published on ass and also at www.asstr.org. Katie McN katiemcn@newsguy.com 3/18/00 1:45 PM
Just thought I'd stop in and say a big thank-you to all who read and enjoyed my poem, "Orange". Since I'm still a relative newcomer to the published-poet gig, it means a lot to have such positive feedback. Readers are the main reason I love to write, so thank you very much Jeneene, Chad, and Paula. You made this writer's day! 'Bina.
Just in quick response to Tony D's suggestion that the CS chat room be open 24/7 -- it is! You just need to help us fill it 24/7. We only have scheduled chats on Wednesday, for now, but that doesn't mean you can't come and hang out. The more people lurk around in there, the more people will stay. Take care, KB Kris Bierk poetry@cleansheets.com 3/17/00 5:48 PM
In response to "M"'s comment of 3/11: I don't write mainstream fiction as such, but I do write genre (SF&F, horror) fiction--and erotica within those genres. Thanks to all the positive responses to "The Symbol For Intensity," which was my first attempt to sell a story, I'm going to be submitting a lot more stuff for publication. I have a mailing list (Lonsdale@onelist.com) to announce my concerts and publication of my writing, if you'd like a heads-up when the next thing comes out. And thanks for your praise--especially the last sentence, which nearly made me spray coffee on my keyboard. <grin> Remember, always use plenty of lubricant when stretching talent... Allison Lonsdale poichon@earthlink.net 3/17/00 2:35 PM
I have been using Nerve.com for chat and email and would love to see your chat room open 24/7 as an alternative. WHile they are usually adult, they sometimes venture into thechildish. Your site appears to be more mature in nature but I like many of thier features. I believe you could give them a run for it and win if you did it right.
Just read Pique & Melissa... and Doc. What an intensely erotic story! I've always wanted to participate in a threesome (most men do!) and that was a well-written, highly descriptive encounter. Bravo. -- SF SF 3/12/00 3:53 PM
"The Symbol for Intensity" was one of the most incredibly innovative stories I've ever come across here...& I'm a fairly regular visitor. Allison Lonsdale's style has tremendous power...what I'd love to know is, has she ever written any mainstream fiction? Does she plan to? Because a talent like hers should be stretched... M 3/11/00 1:18 PM
Congratulations: three winners in a row. Pique and Melissa was *hot*; The Symbol for Intensity was strange, totally engaging, courageous, and very well expressed; and now, _Learning to Play Chess_, which I think is the best, most confident and mature piece of writing you've published in a number of months. The clean, simple writing, the clear voice of the narrator, the nice little story and characterizations -- I didn't even mind that it wasn't a big turn-on! BG 3/8/00 8:09 PM
Just wanted to say that i loved this site - a place not only for lovers and lovers of erotica, but writers - not only vibrant but also refreshing. I was especially taken by kate trainor's "mid-air". A piece that i found startling not only in its incredibly evocative imagery, but also in its exploration of identity and escapism. truly an exceptional writer..an amazing grasp of language and poetry..thankyou. Josh Jonas_1@hotmail.com 3/7/00 3:53 AM
I did enjoy Sabina's "Orange". So subtle, erotic in a fresh way. Thanks, Paula Paula paulieg@libero.it 3/6/00 2:13 AM
Thanks for the article Facing Your Fetish by Jaie Helier. I have been trying to find ways to bring this up to my husband for some time now. I do write short erotic stories for him. He enjoys them but never seems to get the hint. After 20 years of marriage, you would think I could just say it to his face. But that has not worked either. But I will show him this article. Perhaps it will help push the conversation in the right direction. Maggie 3/5/00 7:08 AM
