Salon not only leans toward the negative in sex, they're not too smart about mothers either (to wit, the Mothers Who Think section run by the wives of the founders, implying that some mothers *don't* think and that those who do must be special). Nice columns this week - your articles are getting far better and smarter than the fiction.

On the sex column - watching a woman pee standing up with her jeans pulled down is *incredibly* sexy, especially when out camping in a natural setting.

Baseball, yes, indeed -- I think there should be an entire zine somewhere devoted to just baseball & sex.

I'm glad to see through our survey that so many of our readers check in here once a week -- believe me, it keeps us all hustling ! For anyone who uses Google as their home page, we now have a way that you can use Google & support Clean Sheets and erotic writing at the very same time -- our new splash page has the complete Google search, and we are partnered with them. If you're skipping this page & sneaking right into Clean Sheets, well,
tsk, you must really be an adult. You can make Clean Sheets/Google your home page at:

www.cleansheets.com

Other interesting results from our reader survey: we are almost evenly divided in readership between male and female, with age ranges also spread evenly through the 20's, 30's & 40's, with another 22% outside that range. The kinkiness factor is my favorite question, and I think it would make a worthy essay assignment for any lover: define "moderately kinky" for me. But, 34% of you consider yourself just that, with 36% being more conservative with "mildly kinky", and only 9% getting wild on the "extremely kinky" side.

That's a good article on phone sex. Reading it makes me want to go call my girlfriend in Boston immediately to see what she's wearing. There's nothing sexier than sitting naked on the sofa, secretly watching baseball on TV with the sound off, and hearing her soft, distant voice whispering "I want you to fuck me". It's the best of both worlds!

Now *that's* a funny writer, the one linked to in the alt.sex.stories article, M1ke Hunt. I just read the links to Women Are Stupid and "And Then I Fucked Her" and they're hilarious.

I adore that Clean Sheets keeps cranking out all this erotic writing week after week on a regular basis. Some stories bore me, but there have been so many great ones over time -Two Obsessions, Do What You Love, the chess story, The Symbol for Intensity, Hanne Blank's stories, Pig Heaven, and I even like some of the erotic poetry here, which I hardly ever read anywhere else.

Keep up the good work. I look forward to checking in here every Wednesday!

I liked 'Stuck on Her'. Not erotica, but it was an amusing story.
'One Night' could have been better since it actually aimed for being an erotic piece. The scene with the girl eating the wife was nice, but then it was interrupted with sex. I think it could have been more erotic if it'd asked fewer questions about itself.

'Bahn' was a nice piece. Somewhat erotic, good character building. The last bit when they're going through the stations was pretty good.
I think the editors are just trying to offer a wide selection. Not everything works for everyone. I'll take a story that makes me care about what happens to the characters over a series of sex scenes any day.

There's a lot more here than just Stuck On Her, but since everyone is writing about that I will too.

I kinda like it. Sure, it isn't really all that filled with sex, but as someone down below said, sex is variety. We don't all have to like the same stories or be turned on by the same images. I also liked that the woman is the aggressor. In this story the male is seduced by the female. Granted, at the end, the male figure is the actor, gluing his boss to the toilet seat, but that is easily explained by the plot.

Sure, it might not be prize winning fiction, and sure it isn't filled with the sort of action some seem to want, but maybe it's a palate cleansing sherbet coming after the "meatier" selections.

As for humor, that is strictly up to the individual reader. I found it funny, but some people hate Monty Python, or Robin Williams, and the Andy Kaufman movie didn't do well. So it isn't surprising some don't find Stuck On Her funny.

I agree with these people here. I cum here so i can jack off and i want a hot story what gets me going. I want boner-fide erotica! Not some story about gluing someone to a toilet. Cum on!

Whooo-hoo! Bukowski and Miller? Christ! What are you people thinking?! Without arguing the merit of either of those guys, there's no way that "Stuck" is in the same vein. "Stuck" in just the latest in a long string of increasingly BORING stories here.
Campy isn't always a good thing, and it's not a word you can throw out to justify amateur and tacky writing. This reminded me of the ratty printed-out sex stories that used to circulate on my junior high schoolbus. We aren't 12 year olds here guys!

I imagine both Bukowski & Miller rolled over on these thoughts . They were great but unusual writers. The one here is just bad. There's nothing wrong with camp/humor, but being funny usually helps a great deal.
Michael

6/20/00 1:58 PM

Despite all the controversy over "Stuck" -- I agree it's not erotic but I wonder if people are missing the fact that it's written as campy adult humor. I think that humor in erotica changes the intent completely, but it can still be entertaining to read. I agree with the reader below who pointed out the similarity to Bukowski's work. He's got a great story about a woman's rape fantasy in "Tales of Ordinary Madness" that is written with campy dialogue and, although there is a sex scene or two, it's not erotic. It is, however, good writing. This story is good as well, but I don't think for a second that the author truly intended it to be "erotica" -- I think he wrote it as adult short fiction with a comic twist, and he suceeded in that. Of course, I also happen to dig Bukowski, and some people hate it. You can't please everyone.

Stuck on Her is a poor piece of writing. Very poor!!!!

6/20/00 6:14 AM

I come here to read quality erotica. Some of it is a bit esoteric for my tastes, but I generally find at least one story that works. I'm not a prude and I don't mind course language. IMHO, 'Stuck' belongs on a porn site with the rest of the mind-numbing unerotica therein. It entertained me on exactly zero levels.

I'm disappointed [in case you can't tell].

I assumed maybe the fiction editor had changed here also, or else you folks were hard up & scraping the bottom of the barrel for writing. The last 6 or 7 stories were either unreadable or boring. I think I'll delete this bookmark for now and check back sometime later.

I didn't expect to like "Stuck on Her" -- I usually prefer soft, lyrical erotica -- but somehow this story pushed my buttons. It has a raw energy that makes me want to read more of the author's work, especially if he'd be willing to allow his female character an orgasm in his next piece. As for the line "I've wanted you since the day you walked in here," it might not be deathless prose, but it hit me where it counts. I've been there...and I can still see guy walking into my office. <sigh>

6/16/00 9:19 PM

I liked "Stuck on Her" a lot. It was different from a lot of so-called erotic fiction. A lot of erotic fiction is *too* "erotic," that is, the language is all too often too arty and precious. Not the case here! Chuck Barber has a masculine, blunt, hard (ok, ok, enough sexual metaphors) writing style that is refreshing and straight to the point, like a punch in the gut or a big dick in the cunt. Not that his isn't "artistic," too, but more in the vein of a Henry Miller or Charles Bukowski. He's not afraid of being DIRTY as well as erotic, and that's a BIG PLUS. And the sex is good, too. Another plus is the humor, and the use of a working class hero. In a way this reminds me of a sex story that could have appeared in some old '60's men's magazine, except smarter and cooler. And I liked the conclusion -- there are plenty of bastards I'd like to see glued to a toilet seat myself. In fac,t I'm going to go fuck the bosses wife and put Super Glue on his toilet seat right now. Thanks, Barber, for the idea. -- Morris H.

I delight in CleanSheets' unique diversity, readers and staff alike (you should hear the arguments we fiction editors have!). Sex IS diversity. That's its basic engine. I'm partly responsible for what you read here, so that means I'm to blame, too. We'll delight and illuminate as often as we can, but we won't succeed--with you--every time. Predictable erotica?DEFINITELY not at this delicious, lascivious, giggly, bumptious, opinionated little magazine. We're having too much fun!

I've been reading CleanSheets for a long time now, and mostly for the wonderful fiction. When I come here I expect stories that are unique, well written and, well, let's face it HOT. I'm sorry to say that in the last few weeks the quality of the fiction has really fallen off. I miss the enchanting powerful stories like Symbol for Intensity and Two Obsessions. The train story, Stuck, and the rope story are simply not of the same caliber at all. Why the sudden change? Have you gotten a new fiction editor?
T

6/15/00 8:22 AM

As a longtime reader of Clean Sheets, I have to say that the gallery has *always* been less than erotic and never interesting. But the fiction is often excellent - go back and read The Symbol of Intensity, or Do What You Love, or the one about the emergency room. Those were worth printing out and saving. Less bad humor, less romance, more heat, that's what I like.

"Stuck" sucks. So does the new gallery. Where's the hot writing that used to be here?
Chris

On "Stuck..." by Barber: A breath of fresh air. Simple and funny. Jack (below): I think most of those "sentences that should never be written" were tongue in cheek this time.

This week's story was a bit disappointing. There are some sentences that should never be written. "I've wanted you since the day you walked in here." is one of them.

I was naturally interested when the film The Girl in a Swing came out in 1989 but, as the reviews were uniformly negative, I passed on seeing it. Having reviewed the novel, however, I'm looking for a video copy of the film and may review it if I find one.

While I don't want to prejudge, I will admit that I find it hard to conceive of how the novel could receive basic justice in a film adaptation. Perhaps if it were three hours long and directed by the likes of Ingmar Bergman the results might be good. I don't really know, though I hope to get a chance to see the film, albeit 11 years late.

Re: The Girl in a Swing. There's a 1989 movie (same title; dir. Gordon Hessler.) I liked it pretty well. My partner thought it was hellacious and vowed never to see another movie with Meg Tilly! I've no idea how well it represents the book.

Anyone looking for a copy of The Girl in a Swing and not wanting to purchase the large print edition might try the Barnes and Noble used book network. There are over 300 copies available here and there, some very expensive, but others considerably cheaper than the large print offering.

You also can find the book at various prices at Powells.com -- use the link at the top of the Clean Sheets bookstore (books, in the index above this), or the one in the Clean Sheets toystore (toys, above). Type in a search for "The Girl in a Swing." Prices range considerably.

That review of "Girl On a Swing" is so interesting that I *must* read the book. I'd buy it through your bookstore, but hesitate to drop thirty bucks for a large-print book! Fortunately, I called my library and they have 2 copies (both checked out, but due soon) and I look forward to reading this. Thanks!

Two Obsessions is great fiction. My lady and I have discussed a threesome, and might try it sometime. I'd like it to be as good as this story. In fact, I'd love her to have a sover similar to this, while I watched, whether or not I participated beyond voyeurism. Just a great story.

i was very disappointed by Two Obsessions... the concept was great, so was the writing... but the masses of coarse slang really turned me off... (tit, cunt, pussylips, cocksucker and so on)... liked Bahn and Riptide, though...

My thanks to those who commented on my story "Riptide." It's my first erotica piece to see print, so the positive feedback is encouraging.

A side note... As I develop my stories, I often choose pieces of music to act as themes for them, to help me focus on that story's particular atmosphere while I'm writing. If anyone's interested in hearing the "soundtrack" for "Riptide," check out track 5 of the Secret Garden CD "Dawn of a New Century."
