 As an artist, I strive to create
images that are meaningful and aesthetically pleasing to
me. My beliefs as a Pagan and a carnal being are an
integral part of my imagery as well. The concept of the Modern Primitive, or "New Bohemian" is the mainstay of my fascination with Paganesque imagery, and nowhere is it more evident than in the contemporary alternative subculture I photograph. The world through which we as carnal beings walk is colored by the psychedelic maze of our subconscious and the inexplicable drives of our mysterious animal instincts. This causes many people to fear and misunderstand their own survival urges; to label them as Good and Evil. These are not those people. Set against the lush backdrop of Nature are figures stripped bare of their worldly unnaturalness, their animal aspects accentuated and celebrated through self-decoration. The symbolic images that result stand timeless and universal, encompassing all cultures and time periods in the shared history of the human race; united in their celebration of the Old Ways, in a language of imagery not even words can adequately express.
Adrian Welch's work has been featured in Scarlet Letters: The Journal of Femmerotica, Cupido (Norway), Cupido (Denmark), The Slave Journal, Blood Moon Zine, X-Muse, Mind Caviar, Her Curve, and Jane's 'Net Guide. In addition to art and photography, he has a degree in graphic design and specializes in photo restoration and retouching, web design, interactive multimedia development, 3-D design, and digital imaging. |
