Dany Nieves artist profile |
|
There is a definite boundary of our everyday existence; a thin line which we saunter as we truly identify with our society. The most subtle and lasting impressions, the boldest statements, and the purist essence of people is their search for perfect sexual release. Our fantasies betray us; they hold open the windows of public discovery and shed our shrouds. I photograph fantasies.
Our oldest and most sacred images come from deep within and we can never see for ourselves the relationship between those impressions and ourselves. To seek this information, to capture the whole and translate it for the public investigation that is to follow is opening up my own self to scrutiny. It makes me one of my subjects. I relish the close workings between artist and subject. It forms an everlasting bond between them, more so than with another lover or creator of a fantasy. The people that I photograph are your peers, no matter their profession. They come and reveal themselves knowing full well that I will disclose that certain sacred secret that they themselves might not even understand. It is my honor to be their audience of one while they become the whole person that seldom ventures out. Keeping this secret even from their dearest ones.
Learning was easy once it was understood that it was an experience to be savored. Life itself is the Mentor. Few realized the lesson and the techniques of art, of passions. From my years as a student in society's schools, I began to dissect and observe the beast we call human. As Pablo Piccasso once stated, we have the creativity, then we learn the craft. We learn the craft, and then we learn creativity. My peers became my subjects, and then they became my peers. With each kiss that a maiden bestows, to the last gasp of breath which subsides in the afterglow of rigorous exertions; to experience is to learn is to create.
