I have been making erotic
photographs for over 20 years, but due to the pressures
of living and working in conservative locales, I have
kept the work to myself. I see women as the most
beautiful and complex of all creations; it appalls me that
society shuns viewing the human body, but seems to
condone its destruction in the form of the violence seen
in movies and television.
These are real
compositions of real women. My work is not about
documenting perfection, but celebrating the joy and
unique beauty found in every woman. These women aren¹t
36-24-36, nor is my work.
The women portrayed here
had no facades or preconceived notions. They are
neighbors, friends, co-workers, acquaintances. Most are
between the ages of 30-50, at least one is over 60, and
they are all genuine women who have something to say
about their confidence, their sexuality and their
personas. I am the fortunate observer who was present to
capture women during the moments when they were most
comfortable with themselves.
The work
was originally shot in black and white. The color is
meticulously added by hand using a mouse. This caressing
of color onto the human form allows me to become even
closer to the piece. The final product is a limited and
numbered giclée.
This is the first time
this body of work has been shared. It has never been
published, exhibited in a gallery, or presented on the
internet. In essence, this is my "coming out"
party, and I thank Clean Sheets for allowing me to reveal
it to you.
