The photographs presented seems at first glance rather simple, but in most pictures a reference to art or a form of literature can be found by looking at the photos. For example, in Dominique's series a relation is made to German expressionism. A dichotomy is created by the contrast of a young naked contemporary woman in black and white and the reproduction of a painting by Otto Dix representing an older woman shown in color. In the series of Marie-Pierre, we can notice books besides her. One of these books is a novel called "Le sexe des étoiles" by the author Monique Proulx from Montreal, which tells the story of a transsexual called Marie-Pierre.
