 Ivana Ford is Southern California
native who's been taking pictures for the past
fifteen years. "My formal training in photography is
minimal. I've found that I learn best through trial
and error. Error probably isn't the right word
considering how many times I've made the 'happy
mistakes'. My textbooks have always been the books and
magazines that feature photographers I admire."Ivana's current project is www.powerdivas.com, which is a member based site that features her photos of female bodybuilders. Her most frequenly asked question for Powerdivas has been: Why female bodybuilders? "There's an overabundance of male physique photography but not much in the way for women." Ivana's innovative work is altering the genre of women's physique photography. Her collaborations with female bodybuilders have produce powerful and sensual images. "I enjoy exploring the possibilities of working with muscular women. It's an ongoing process of expanding and redefining femininity." There is a fascination with why a woman would want to develop her body to the point she's taken on seemingly 'masculine' features. This transformation often stigmatizes the individual. Not unlike any other form of extreme body modification. Ivana approaches each photo shoot with the thought of "capturing an image that represents for each model the ideal for which they are striving." For many of the women the ideal is to celebrate the outward display of strength and power without negating their unique brand of femininity. |
