Baby it's cold outside... I live in the state of grace called Colorado, with 948 million aspen trees and an average 300 sunny days a year. But even here, the holiday season can be cold and somber for way too many people. There is too little joyous sex involved, and way too much false cheer and super-sized spending. I believe we need more displays of fucking reindeer* and fewer visions of VISA cards floating through our night dreams in the month of December. And I believe our world would be a far better place if more people were wary of organizations that are divisive, from churches to political parties, and if more of us were energized by the simplicity of sex and kindness as a kind of religion.
Listen to the fireplace roar... Or sit quietly in front of the candlelight tonight. Today the light returns as the winter solstice arrives and the days grow longer once again. It is a time for a simple feast, for friends, for ringing bells, for dancing in a circle of love, whether it forms naturally around you or you have to create it for yourself. It is a time to meditate in the dark. Learn about lovingkindness meditation and give it a try -- just sit comfortably and think kind thoughts, starting with yourself. May I be happy. May I be safe. May I be peaceful. May I live with ease. Then focus your power on another person, perhaps someone you've loved and lost. May he be happy. May he be safe. May he be peaceful. May he live with ease. Now is the time to slow your life down and learn when sunrise and sunset are and begin to observe them. I learned long ago that if I rise every morning and meditate through the sunrise, it helps keep me focused and makes me grounded in the now of the present moment.
Maybe just a half drink more (put some records on while I pour)... Drink something wonderful that warms you right down to your toes. Tia Maria on the rocks works for me tonight. Then dance naked. If you feel silly, drink a little more. Crank up the music. If you're alone, put on headphones to get the music all the way inside you. Try D'Angelo for pure sex . Dance by yourself, with a lover, with friends, with the cordless phone to your ear laughing with someone long-distance, with your cat, maybe even with those racy reindeer. Dance in a circle of love, in front of the mirror, in the glimmer of candlelight, in touch with your body the way it was meant to be.
I wish I knew how (your eyes are like starlight now)... Now is the time to say I love you. It's free, and it's only made easier through practice. I love you. You matter to me. Thank you for being in my life. Those are the words everyone needs to hear, those are the real gifts of the season.
Gosh your lips are delicious... To kiss: the meaning of sex. To kiss the mouth, the neck, the heart, the soul. Kiss upside down, kiss early, kiss often, but kiss for a very long time when you can. Now is the time to forget the malls and the wrapping paper and just immerse ourselves in our own natural beauty and sexuality, kissing and holding and touching and making love through the night. Now is the time to envelop ourselves in more sex, more kindness, more dancing, and the next thing we know, the wild nights are calling and baby it's cold outside...no more.
