G-spot Spelunking: Finding Your Little G for a Big O

by Shanna Germain
(04/26/2006)

Sure, we all know that penises are like...well, everything that's tall and pointy, man-made or natural. Obelisks, monuments, statues, mountains, trees...they're everywhere.

So, where does that leave women, when it comes to describing our private parts? My best guess is that they're like those cool old caves, the ones lined with primitive drawings, the ones that are mysterious, curvy, and full of hidden treasures around every bend. And one of those hidden treasures is the elusive and much sought after G-spot.

Now, to be honest, I'm making up the cave thing, although I do think it's a pretty good comparison. And the G-spot thing? Well, I don't know much about that either. In fact, before I started this review, I still thought the G-spot might be a myth, like Loch Ness or Big Foot. Sure, I'd heard tales that my G-spot was in there somewhere, and that it would bring great joys if only I could find it -- but I'd heard the same thing about Leprechauns, too, and hadn't rushed out to find them either.

Still, the idea intrigued me -- could I find my G-spot? Would I know it when I saw it? And would it really offer a pot of orgasms -- and possibly even an ejaculation? -- at the end of the rainbow? Since I didn't have a map, and hadn't been lucky enough to find an experienced guide to show me the way, I decided to turn to the G-Spot Center, an online G-spot resource from Babeland, to help me get started.

This is what I learned from the Web site: First off, unlike Bigfoot, the G-spot really has been proven to exist. Named after sex researcher Ernst Grafenberg, the G-spot is a super sensitive spongy tissue that wraps around the urethra. When aroused, the G-spot swells and fills with fluid, making it easy to find with your fingers. And, joy of all joys, G-spot stimulation really can and does give lots of women orgasms.

Now, I know that reading about your G-spot and actually finding it are two entirely different things. So, in the name of research, I figured I'd better unfold my mental map and get in there and do some exploring. Of course, I packed a bag of toys and conned a partner into coming with me, just to make the journey that much more fun!

This is what I learned from my own exploration: First off, my G-spot really does exist. And it does feel like a sponge. But it also feels amazingly good, and sensitive, and shivery. It's a strange sensation, like wanting to pee and have an orgasm all at once -- and while it took a little getting used to, it didn't take long to see why women around the world spend their precious time chasing after this elusive beast.

And one of the easiest ways to find it is by using toys that are designed to specifically target your G-spot area. I tried out three, purely for research of course, and found each one had something a little different to offer:

If it's your first time, don't go exploring alone. Instead, let the Rock Chick guide you to your hidden hot spots. This U-shaped silicone toy might look like a soft purple lobster claw, but once you get it inside, it feels more like a perfect pearl. Slide it in, rock it up, and you'll be amazed at the way it hits both your G-spot and your clit at the same time. If you have a thing for hot and cold, you can alter the temperature of this toy by running it under warm water or popping it in the fridge. Perfect for coupling, because it gives your partner a close-in hold, and allows either of you control of the motion and speed.

The Pixie Plus, which is designed to replicate that "come hither" motion that hits the G-spot so perfectly, sports a curvy end, a nubby texture, and is made of elastomer. I don't know what elastomer is, exactly, but it's soft and cute, and I love the way it feels. If you're new to G-spot spelunking, this is a great start, because the movement is soft and subtle and you won't feel overwhelmed. Of the three toys I tried, this offers the least stimulation, so if you need or want more power, you might want to skip this one. However, it does offer this great second vibe attachment that can suction to anything -- pop it on your clit or nipples while you're G-spotting and, well, let's just say you might find that pot of gold after all.

If you've already done some G-spot exploration on your own, you've probably tried the popular Nubby G. If so, I encourage you to check out the Nubby's glamorous cousin, Galaxy G. This silicone and sparkle vibe might look a bit intimidating at first -- it's got a solid width to it, for sure -- but once you get used to it in your hand, and in other places, you'll find it's a perfect way to explore your sensitive spots. The extra-firm silicone in a strong curve does wonders on your G-spot, especially when you crank up the in-base bullet vibe.

So, what are you? A non-believer, like I used to be? A brand-new G-spot explorer? An experienced spelunker? Either way, it's time to get in there and explore your hidden treasures -- you never know what gems await, especially if you have these toys and a good map to guide you on your G-spot journey.
